PC Software Advice , by drDon
SUMMARY
When I moved my desktop PC from a sub 1GHz processor under Windows 98se to a custom AMD Athlon 1.3GHz under Windows 2000, I was forced to make some changes in my basic tool kit of software helpers. I share some of those concepts here.
I am an advanced end user, with some programming experience on desktop and mainframe computers. Along the way to solving my own data processing needs, I have accumulated a software toolkit for DOS, Windows 3 to 98, and Windows 2000. My choices are generic examples, but I do include some strongly held opinions, both pro and con.
My report could save you time hunting for solutions and internet sources, save you some money, and possibly warn you away from some bad situations. If nothing else, it could amuse you to hear some one ranting from a soap box.
